Courtney, BC - Canada
Born in North Vancouver, British Columbia.
I am self-taught and have spent the majority of my life working in construction so that I could "buy" time to paint. I have a spotty employment history and have struggled with my addiction to painting. I live on Vancouver Island with my wife and two mini-weenies, ride my motorcycle around paradise looking for good photo-ops. And I paint a little colour, light and shapes.
I am a life long watercolourist. Painted with Reeves watercolors in grade school and took Art in the Park in the summer. I have always loved old cars and when I couldn't afford to restore an old wreck I did the next best thing, I painted one instead and I was hooked. For me, they are so much fun to paint. My subject matter allows for unlimited combinations and permutations of colours and textures. I create my own scenes, my little kingdoms and I love to repeat a drawing just to see what potential lies within the lines. Watercolour is my passion, my addiction and I love the challenges, the puzzles and the endless possibilities. I am self-taught, borrowing what I need and figuring out the rest for myself. I want to be an honest painter, maybe less sophisticated, but with a minimum of cliche, gimmickry or facile stylings. Substance and genuineness, all be it with a touch of whimsy and humour, is what I am after.
